Leinart may be similar to Kournikova

SpecialMaybe Matt Leinart should follow the career path blazed by former tennis star Anna Kournikova. Hes already got the good looks. He had plenty of early-career hype, and in four-plus seasons in the NFL, he has enjoyed no measurable success.

Modeling could be a nice fall-back for Leinart. It might even become necessary if his next NFL stop doesnt pan out. At 27 years old, and with a growing load of unflattering baggage, the former Heisman Trophy winner is running out of options.

Revis ends holdout, agrees to new deal with Jets

CBSSpo just in time for the New York Jets to start their Super Bowl run.

All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis and the Jets agreed in principle to a four-year contract Sunday night, reaching a deal a week before the teams season opener.

The Jets wouldnt disclose financial terms of the deal, but the reported it was worth $46 million, including $32 million guaranteed.

Top pick Bradford named Week 1 starter for Rams

CBSSpor No. 1 overall draft pick Sam Bradford will start at quarterback for the St. Louis Rams in the regular-season opener at home against Arizona next weekend.

Coach Steve Spagnuolo announced the decision Saturday, saying Bradford earned the job and everyone was confident in him. The game is Sept. 12.

Bradford won the 2008 Heisman Trophy when he was at Oklahoma. He signed a six-year, $78 million contract with $50 million in guaranteed money and then went out and played well in the preseason against the likes of New England and Baltimore.

A.J. Feeley and Thad Lewis are the backups.

Cardinals release former QB of the future Leinart

CBSSports. The Arizona Cardinals released quarterback Matt Leinart, ending a rocky stint with the team that began with fanfare as he was drafted 10th overall in 2006 and ended this preseason with the former USC star taking a backseat to Derek Anderson.

The team announced the decision to release the 2004 Heisman Trophy winner Saturday.

Leinart played in 29 games with 17 starts for Arizona, and threw for 3,893 yards with 14 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

NFL makes adjustments with umpire positioning

CBSSports. The NFL will move umpires back to their old spots during the final five minutes of Thursdays preseason games.

Previously they were in the old spot for only the final two minutes of each half.

NFL spokesman Corry Rush confirmed the adjustment Wednesday.

League officials decided to move umpires from the old spot, in the middle of the defense, to behind the deepest running back for safety reasons. But Peyton Manning complained about the switch after being called twice for illegal snaps when the umpire couldnt get into position quickly enough last week at Green Bay.
